Sometimes wisdom comes from the most unexpected places.

Last week, I was spending time with my four-year-old grandson. More than once, I asked if he needed help with something. Each time, with confidence and determination, he looked at me and said, “I got this.”

Those three little words have echoed in my mind all week.

As adults, we often face projects, conversations, or decisions that feel intimidating. We procrastinate because we’re afraid we’ll fail, make mistakes, or simply aren’t capable. I’ve been staring at one of those “hard things” myself—a project I’ve been putting off because it felt bigger than me.

Then I heard his little voice in my heart: “I got this.”

So I finally started.

But as I’ve reflected on those words, I’ve realized there’s an important difference between the confidence of a child and the confidence God calls us to have.

Left to ourselves, we don’t always “got this.” Our own strength eventually runs out. Our courage wavers. Our abilities have limits.

My confidence isn’t really in me.

My confidence is in Christ.

When I say, “I got this,” what I really mean is, “With God’s help, I can do this.” That changes everything. It takes the pressure off of being enough because I know I don’t have to rely on my own strength.

The apostle Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” Those words aren’t a promise that life will be easy or that every endeavor will succeed. They are a promise that whatever God calls us to face, He will provide the strength we need.

Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s taking the next step even when you’re afraid because you trust the One who walks beside you.

So maybe today there’s something you’ve been avoiding. A difficult conversation. A new opportunity. A dream you’ve been too afraid to pursue. A challenge that seems overwhelming.

Take the first step.

Tell yourself, “I got this”… and then remember the rest of the story: “Because Christ has me.”

With Him, we can do hard things—not because we are strong enough, but because He is.
